We do not push any "adware / spyware / illegal links" , and would appreciate a support ticket to be filed (giving as much information / evidence as possible) should this be seen, we do use online advertisers to subsidize the cost of the free hosting, and sometimes even on the highest quality advert networks some bad individuals do manage to slip in a advert, other than that to our knowledge there has been none of the above. |
Byethost will rob you blind, and then some...
First let me state that recently Byethost was hacked on August 15, 2007. The staff on the Byethost forum posted an announcement stating only that there was a "security issue" that needed to be addressed and that was causing all the problems with downtime and people not being able to access their sites through either FTP or VistaPanel. For 6 straight days I struggled with the useless and very unhelpful forum staff to retrieve the password for my site THAT THEY LOST! They kept giving me the runaround, pointing me to various links. One of these involved using a ticket submission system for getting "real" tech support. You post your username, email, and domain name in the ticket and send it, then you are supposed to get a reply back. Well for one, you only get an automated response stating someone will contact you in 24 hours, a "form email" basically. Just a silly machine. Anyway, after waiting for over 24 hours still nothing. And this happened every single time. Even after the moderators claimed the system was "fixed". The truth is, the moderators and admin on the Byethost forum are not the real technical support, they are just the guys who run and get the information about what is going on with maintenance from the REAL STAFF WHOM DOES NOT INTERACT WITH THE CUSTOMER AT ALL. And when I questioned them repeatedly about what the "security issue" was no one would tell me anything. Finally one of the lesser junior moderators confessed that Byethost was HACKED by a KID from Lithuania. A KID!!! A single lone kid caused the place to get turned upside down. At the time of this writing they are STILL trying to clean everything up. And I still cannot get back into my site. I got very fed up and complained and I was ignored and finally banned, while I watched others get their passwords back straight from a site ADMIN! Wtf! How come only certain people get special attention and not everyone??? Some of these people had become customers of the site only days prior to the hacking, while I had been there almost 2 months already. And when they banned me from the forum it somehow banned me from even viewing my own site!!! I have to use a proxy to see it now, so I know it's still on their servers even after I sent emails requesting to remove it or legal action would ensue. Also I witnessed an individual lose all of his client base and his monthly income because they lost all his information in the confusion, only a DAY after he PAID them for the new service. They blew him off as well. One other thing I would like to note is that the super moderator named "rhodan" is an a$$hole. He provides useless and unhelpful posts, and if he is tired of trying to help you he will just say "I don't have time to look into this and besides it's not my job". Don't believe me? note how a lot of my posts on the forum were removed or replaced with a "bad language" censor. That's funny, I only swore in 2 of my posts and besides, they wouldn't give me my stuff back so why should I follow their rules? I'M THE CUSTOMER! YOU SERVE ME YOU IDIOTS! NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND! HEEELLOOOO! The customer is always right, unless you're with Byethost at which point you're $crewed out of every right you have. If you speak out on their forum and try to let others know of the fraudulent activities they will censor and ban you to keep their $h!t smelling like roses. Basically, if you want your money stolen and your site hacked up to where you are LOCKED OUT of it, hey be my guest and go with these guys. I got a shirt that says "Wanna know how to keep an idiot busy? See other side of shirt", and guess what it says on the other side? The same thing. That's what the forum is like. If you want real support you have to use the following which is posted NOWHERE on Byethost that I could find. I actually found this information on a rather obscure looking little site that lists hosts like these:

Please spread the word about this to everyone. People really need to know how Byethost is. I've seen too many "good" reviews for this place that are way outdated. Apparently whomever the staff was before they arent there now. This host certainly does NOT deserve a seal of approval of any kind. What a joke! |

We identified a potential security breach from an unknown party (due to many ip addresses being involved , and proxy chains , etc being used) so as a precaution we enforced a password change for all users ftp accounts.
We mailed all passwords out to affected users, however some people did not receive these emails (due to spam filters, etc) which caused a queue of manual password retrievals to be processed 99.999% of people had access withing 24 hours however unfortunately some people had to wait longer (due to spam filter issues , etc) .
The moderators on the byet.net forum are moderators, and are not technical support staff, any technical assistance provided by moderators is provided as is , and technical support tickets should be created for support issues.

there are 4 difirent free plans
thay all have adds but thay are only small banners at the top of the page and if you pay a sertan amount a year thay remove the ads for you im on the max storage plan and its prity cool its got 2mb file size limit and no file type limit thay all support mysql and php and verius other scripts. its has the member only arias that you can set up in the admin pannel |
