Inexistent phone support, low quality email support, often downtime
I have a VPS2 plan (50GB) since December 2007
In first weeks I experienced random vps down ("mounted state") with default installation due to some misconfiguration. Anyway, they are covered by "unmanaged server therms"
Strong: price, network speed.
Weak:
- low resources on vps servers, CPU time is not guaranteed, sometime a website is loading slower than on a shared webhosting, due to mysql querry
- random downtime of all canaca servers (canaca.com, my vps, all my friends websites hosted on canaca). I've used traceroute and ping from lg.level3.net and from many other looking glases (can be no internet connection, power down, or dns problems, or all above)
- I traced from many place around the earth, and the last hop is 12 canaca-com.demarc.cogentco.com (38.99.208.98) [AS174 {COGENT}]. This look like a stub network. Is the only way that I can explain this generalized server down (17.02.2008), they have a single internet connection and no alternative routes.
- "24/7 Support Hot-line" is a simple machine that forward to contact form from website. Here response time is 1-2 days, every 2 day a stupid response, and sometime after 1-2 weeks I received a good answer. I pray that today downtime to be not too long. By the way I found this website when I google-ed for a contact from Canaca :-) |

Customer service rep is a dick, server down fairly often
I purchased this host because It was very cheap,which was the only thing I really cared about at the time. I learned my lesson. These guys are assholes. They're server was down fairly often a month into my service, and when I asked what was going on they cited their terms of service to me to immediatly cover their asses.
Whenever there was any problem they rudely made it very clear that there was nothing I could do or it was my fault. They have no value for their customers, and treat them like crap. |

Fast customer service
The best part of Canaca is the customer service. It's fast, I mean fast. Sometimes you'll get reponses the same day, within a couple hours. Even on Christmas Eve! (Hey I was working on a project that had to be done soon :D)
Server speed is good, prices are pretty good for the amount of bandwidth you get.
I'd defiantly say check out canaca. |
