Good For Non-Technical Small Sites
Host gator seem great for small sites. I hosted a series of websites with them. Whenever I emailed them for support I heard back within a matter of minutes usually! Which is great however you do have to type your support emails very basic english, very carefully documenting your problem. They will ask you the most obvious questions and waste time if you do not specifiy everything. It almost feels like you are dealing with a helpdesk out of the EU/States.
Servers were never a problem untill my site started to get busy, they moved my server as the site was slowling up the server but a whole load of problems them started, databases would go missing. For large important, revenue earning sites I would not recommend host gator however for small sites, they are great.
Server downtime seemed slightly more than they claim, but ok service. For the price, can't be beaten. However in the last week I have moved hosts to a more expensive host, I don't mind paying more for a more advanced service.
