Not a bad host, but some troubles.
I'll put complaints first and compliments later.
They have a distinct problem with keeping their customers informed on matters that concern them. I personally host nearly 20 sites on my hosting with midPhase, not only for myself but for friends too. A decent example of this problem happened about a month or so ago. Someone must have discovered a vulnerability in the mail() function of PHP, and so midPhase disabled mail() on every persons account for security. We was not informed of this.
My mailing lists were malfunctioning and I had no idea why - my forums would not allow registrations, my websites would not mail me of updates etc. I submitted a support ticket about this, and it seems that mail() had been "suspended on my account". I asked why, and was told there was a vulnerability so it had been disabled - but I could request certain folders to be put in a "white-list" to allow mailing. I still was not sure what this meant, so I asked whether it was a vulnerability in my coding or a vulnerability in PHP. In their next reply they informed me that the requested folders had been white-listed, but didnt answer my question. They did not reply to my next reply directly asking for an answer to that question. That is only one example. They do not mail to inform of schedueled server downtimes, nor of problems with my account.
At one time there was a problem billing my account due to credit card expiration. I was given 2 weeks to rectify this problem before my account was suspended. That is fair right? Wrong. I wasnt notified in any way, shape or form that there was a problem with billing. I wasnt even aware that they had tried billing me as I had paid for a year but couldnt remember the exact date it was to be renewed.
But - their servers are fast. Theres very little unschedueled downtime. They offer decent hosting at a decent price, with not to bad customer support if you submit a ticket.
I'd recommend this host if you know what you are doing, not for beginners though. |
